Our member Theresa Lim took her first class in June 2015 and we’re celebrating 10 years with her at LA Fit!
Wow.. that’s 896 classes and counting! How do you feel?
Thank you! I can still remember my first few classes and thinking how difficult it was and if I would ever get the hang of it. All of the unfamiliar terminology, the uncontrollable muscle shakes and the crazy muscle soreness afterwards. My fitness has improved so much since then – I credit LA Fit for this and am so grateful that I decided to take that first class.
We’d love for you to share your LA Fit journey
I came across a magazine article about LA Fit and it was perfect timing as I had been searching for a new workout routine at the time. I had been dealing with back issues relating to scoliosis and was searching for a fitness routine where I could focus safely on building my core strength. I wanted the classes to be effective so that I wouldn’t feel like I was wasting my time and of course I wanted them to be enjoyable. There’s nothing quite like a megaformer class and the results accrue quickly – I haven’t looked back since.
The highlights?
A general highlight for me has been noticing the improvements in my strength – noticing when I’ve been able to complete moves on the Megaformer which I initially found challenging and near-impossible. Megaformer classes aren’t easy, so getting through a challenging class often feels like a big accomplishment in itself.
What do you love about our community?
The LA Fit community is what I was searching for – a warm and supportive environment with instructors who exude energy, passion and kindness. I appreciate the efforts made by Claire, Jaye and the team to foster a community through the various social events held throughout the year and the fitness challenges held to challenge you, keep you motivated and keep things interesting.
We KEEP IT REAL, MAKE TIME, BE FUN, LEAD THE PACK – which of our values do you resonate with most
For me it would be ‘make time’. I’ve noticed that I reap the most benefits when I make attending classes an entrenched part of my routine. I believe in being as consistent as possible (I like to attend classes at the same time, on the same day, week to week), whilst giving yourself grace if life happens but then getting back into a routine when you’re able to.
Favourite move?
Elevator lunge – a classic move where you can really slow it down and focus on strength, stretch and balance.
Seeing as you’ve completed 896 classes (that’s a hell of a lot), can you share a secret (or three) on staying motivated and consistent with your training?
I believe in being as consistent as possible – make training an entrenched part of your routine (for e.g. same time and same day, week to week).
Motivation can wax and wane so mixing things up with the challenges held throughout the year can help – as well as reminding yourself of why health and fitness is important to you. Always know that you’ll feel better after a class and the effort you put in will be worth it.
