In Lagree, we aim to reach Effective Muscle Stimulation (EMS) as quickly as possible, to maximise every moment we spend on the Megaformer. The way we achieve this is through slow, smooth, controlled continuous tension.
In Lagree, minimising transitions is crucial for maintaining workout intensity and flow.
Here’s why fast transitions matter
- Focus on Slow Twitch Muscle Fibres: The long, lean, fat burning muscle fibres benefit most from uninterrupted (endurance) exercise. They are designed not to fatigue.
- No Breaks Between Exercises: We bet this was a shock at your first class! We promise there’s logic…With just a 30 second break, slow twitch fibres will regain about 90% of their strength, reducing the efficacy of the previous move! Now you know…
Key Contributors to Slow Transitions: Spring adjustments, machine and body repositioning all disrupt workout flow. Think ahead: how you can make your next transition as fast as possible?!
Learn to be a Transition Ninja
Think about it like this: wasting time transitioning between exercises is wasting time you could be doing something else you love.
Making the most of your time on the Megaformer is why your instructor will cue the next move 15 seconds out:
- The name of the move
- The spring load
- Where to position yourself on the Megaformer
Listen to those cues! Then think: what is the fastest way I can get from where I am now, to where I need to be?
Go forth, young Grasshopper…and become a Transition Ninja!
(And if you’re ever next to an instructor in class, give yourself a silent challenge to beat them!)
